The Sixers have the 23rd pick in the draft...explained

Following Brooklyn's decision to defer the pick, the Sixers will now have the 23rd pick in the NBA draft later this month. Have any questions on where that leaves the Sixers, or why it took this long to find that out? This explainer is here for you.

Yesterday, news came out that the Sixers would, in fact, have the 23rd pick in this month's NBA draft. Here's what you need to know.

What: the Sixers will have the 23rd overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Do the Sixers have any other picks in this draft? No, as of now they only have the 23rd overall pick. The Sixers traded away their 2022 second-round pick as part of the package to acquire Jimmy Butler back in 2018.

What is this related to? Brooklyn received two first-round draft picks from the Sixers as part of the James Harden trade: the Sixers' 2022 first-round pick, and the Sixers' 2027 first-round pick (top-8 protected). However, Brooklyn had the right to defer receiving the 2022 pick until 2023, which they have elected to do.
